Question of the Week: Public Availability

“I travel to the National Shooting Complex every year for the World Skeet Shoot and the Blaser, but I’d like to shoot there at other times. Is that possible?”

Yes. The National Shooting Complex is open to NSC members on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am to 5pm and to the public on Thursdays from 9am to 9pm and Saturdays, 9am to 5pm. NSSA and NSCA members who live outside a 75-mile radius of the complex are extended NSC membership privileges to include days and target rates. We generally have all disciples available, skeet, sporting clays, 5-stand, and trap, however, it is always a good idea to check our events calendar or call to confirm availability.

You can find a membership flyer, application, and other information on our Membership and Rates page. Our Events Calendar always indicates the days we’re open to the public.

Question of the Week: Additional or Replacement Patches

“How can I get additional or replacement patches?”

We frequently get requests from members looking to buy additional or replacement NSSA and NSCA membership patches. We do have those available at Headquarters and can easily get those out to you. Additionally, we are occasionally asked about extra patches or pins from the recognition programs like All-American, All-Region, All-State, etc. The availability of those items is limited and varies by award and year. We are always more than happy to look into these requests for you.

For NSSA membership patches, call 210-688-3371 ext. 962.

For NSCA membership patches, call 210-688-3371 ext. 961.

For recognition patches and pins, email nmartin@nssa-nsca.com or call 210-688-3371 ext: 242.

Prices vary based on the type of patch or pin; we can quote a price once we know what you are looking for. Please have your member number available so we can verify your eligibility for the patch you’re requesting.

Question of the Week: Course Preview

“At a registered shoot, am I allowed to walk the course to view the targets before I shoot it? If I do that, am I allowed to take notes or draw diagrams?”

Yes, you can do both. You are not, however, allowed to shoot a non-registered event on the course before the registered event. You can see the rule about shooting a course prior to a registered event in the NSCA Rule Book. See E-2-a on page 37.

Question of the Week: Membership Packet

“I joined and paid my membership dues at my first shoot several weeks ago. Why haven’t I received my membership packet yet? Since I don’t have my membership number yet, can I participate in another shoot?”

When members join at a shoot, clubs turn in the registration and dues with their shoot report. Clubs have two weeks after a shoot is completed to submit the shoot and pay the fees and dues collected. After that, the new member registration is processed and the packet is sent out. So, it can take several weeks for you to receive it.

One thing you can do is check the Skeet Late Shoots and the Sporting Clays Late Shoots lists to see if the club is late reporting the shoot. But if you’re concerned about the delay, we’re glad to check on it for you. Just call us at 210-688-3371, ext. 962 (or extension 961 for sporting clays).

If you plan to shoot another registered event when you haven’t received your membership card yet, call us a day or two before the shoot. If the shoot has been reported and your membership is processed, we can tell you the number. Otherwise, on your next shoot registration, in the place of “Member Number,” you can note “applied for.”

Question of the Week: Ammo Shipping and Supply

“If I’m going to the World Skeet Shoot or National Sporting Clays Championship at the National Shooting Complex, do I need to pre-order my ammunition?”

The NSC carries a large supply of ammunition for our tournaments; however, we do not offer pre-ordering. Our inventory includes all major suppliers with a wide variety of loads in all gauges and is of quantity that participants need not worry about obtaining ammo needed. Participants are always welcome to bring their own ammo or purchase here upon arrival. We will receive and hold for your pick-up upon arrival if you would like to ship your ammo. If shipping, packages need to be addressed to yourself and sent to National Shooting Complex, 5931 Roft Road, San Antonio, TX 78253. Ship it to arrive no more than one week prior to the event.
